The top two seeds of the tournament didn’t disappoint, as both put forth a great performance and effort in the championship game. In the end, the Silver Hawks used the hot shooting of Andy “Sir Nasty” (who had 18 in the second half) and clutch team free throw shooting to win 63-56 over the hustling Quiet Storm. Andy finished the game with 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. For his performance in the playoff, as well as during the season, Andy Sarasty earned this year’s Most Valuable Player Award, averaging 26.5 ppg during the regular season, and 31.5 ppg and 7 apg in the playoffs.

Other strong performers in the game include Thomas (10 points, 9 boards) and Edwards (13 points). It should be noted that Edwards, Thomas, and Nick Sarasty all averaged in double figures during the playoffs for the Silver Hawks. Balanced play and good team work helped lead them to victory.

Quiet Storm, despite the loss, played well, and really showed heart throughout the season, losing only to the Silver Hawks (once in the regular season, once in the playoffs). In this particular game, Keith “Flash” Bradley showed his versitility with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Marcus “Buckets” Bethea also had a strong game with 18 points and 10 rebounds. It should be noted that Quiet Storm was the only team to have 3 different players at one point and time be player of the week this season. Great work!

Brendan “The General” Jones finished the game with 28 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Hard working McCoy also had a strong performance with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Silver Hawks 84 Inwood 43
Silver Hawks used a solid zone defense and quick transition to pull away late in the first half, as they defeated Inwood. While Inwood managed to stay competitive early, the Silver Hawks used good quick passing to go along with good shooting, and once the second half began, there was no turning back. Nick “McNasty” finished the game with 32 points to lead all scorers. Mark Christ and Henry Thomas each pulled down boards for the Hawks, finishing the game with double-doubles in points/rebounds with 13/14 and 14/11 respectively. Inwood was lead by Sommerfeldt and Ravenal, who each finished the game with 8 points.

Quiet Storm 75 Eastside Thunder 50
Quiet Storm almost lived up to there their name in a bad way, as most of their team almost missed the game due to traffic backed up do to the storms last Thursday night. But luckily, they showed up just in time, and pulled out the victory over Eastside Thunder. QS was lead by Marcus “Buckets” Bethea, who finished the game with 25 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds. QS also had strong performances from Keith Bradley and Scott Cook, Bradley finishing with 14 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, Cook finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. In their final game of the season, ET was lead by the hot shooting of Reigal, who finished the game with 22 points, most of which came from behind the arc. Stewart was the only other ET player to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points to go with his 9 boards.

T-Birds 73 Old School 57
This game proved to be a battle, and was closer than the final score, as Old School came back twice from deficits of more than 10 points, but in the end, the T-Birds held off the surging OS for the victory. The Birds were lead by DJ “3D” Williams, who finished the contest with 26 points, 4 assists, and 8 rebounds. Joel “Mr. Hustle” Hemphill also had a strong performance of 15 points and 11 boards. OS was lead once again by their dynamic scorer, Jason Powell, who finished the game with 18 points and 12 boards. His brother, Wesley Powell, also played well, finishing with 15 points and 4 boards.

Tarheels 53 Cobras 49
They say it’s hard to beat a team twice…not to mention two weeks in a row, but that’s exactly what the Tarheels did last Thursday, as they defeated Cobras in this heated first round match up. This game was close throughout, both teams playing a hard-nosed physical game, with the Tarheels making shots and free throws at the end, while the Cobras missed on a few three point opportunities, accounting for the final score. The Tarheels were lead by McCoy and Jones, who each finished the game with 17 points, and McCoy added 11 rebounds to his stat sheet. The Cobras were lead by Keith Waldron, who finished the game with 18 points. Mosch and Hamilton also chipped in 10.

Week 8, Player Of The Week: Nick Sarasty (Silver Hawks)
In possibly the most intense game of the season, Nick Sarasty scored 15 points, including the deciding points in overtime, as the first place Silver Hawks beat the third place T-Birds 74-72. Nick “McNasty” Sarasty also had 4 assists and 3 rebounds to go with his performance. In this case, it wasn’t the total number of points scored, but the timing of his points. Way to go!

Week 9, Players Of The Week:

Marcus Bethea (Quiet Storm)
Marcus “Buckets” Bethea scored the league high (for the week) 28 points as he helped his team defeat Old School 76-38. To go along with his points, most of which came by driving to the bucket, he dished out 6 dimes, and had 9 boards. Great performance, great game, and good luck in the playoffs.

Brendan Jones (Tarheels)
In a must win game for the Tarheels, Brendan “The General” Jones controlled the flow of the game, finishing with 19 points, 3 assists, 7 boards, and 3 steals. His performance helped the Tarheels lock up the 4th seed, setting up for an exciting rematch against the Cobras.

T-Birds 64 Eastside Thunder 52
DJ Williams put together another strong performance on the season, helping his team (T-Birds) defeat Eastside Thunder 64-52. He finished the game with 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Ari Betancourt had a well-rounded game, with 11 points, 8 assists, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Eastside Thunder kept the game close, with solid performances by Khan, Korolawitz, and Stewart, who had 19, 11, and 10 points. In the end, the T-Birds’ steals and good outside shooting helped them pull out the victory.

Silver Hawks 72 Court Order 41
Court Order kept the game within ten points for much of the first half, but the Silver Hawks used 4 three point baskets in three minutes to pull away for good, finishing the game 72-41. Nick “McNasty” finished the game with 28 points and 3 steals, and David Edwards also played well, finishing with 16 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. Henry Thomas was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 1o points and 9 boards. Ortiz and Broadway once again lead the way for Court Order, each finishing the game with 12 points.

Quiet Storm 76 Old School 38
Quiet Storm put on an offensive clinic, as they defeated the short-handed Old School 76-38. Bethea lead all scorers finishing the game with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Bradley, Cook, and Collins also chipped in 19, 11, and 11 points for QS. Jason Powell did all he could to help Old School, and though his efforts weren’t enough for the victory, he did finish the game with 24 points, 12 boards, and 3 steals.

Tarheels 61 Cobras 48
In the most heated battle of the evening, the Tarheels made some clutch free throws and shots down the stretch to pull away with the victory 61-48. Brendan Jones lead all scorers with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Smith and McCoy also chipped in 15 and 12 to aid the Tarheels’ cause. The Cobras’ offensive effort was lead by Brett Hamilton, who had 16 points. The only other player to score in double figures for the Tarheels was Bertot, who finished with 10. The game had big playoff ramifications as the victory forced a three way tie between the T-Birds, Cobras, and Tarheels. The interesting fact here was that the first tie-breaker could not split the teams, as each team beat one of the other two. The T-Birds won the next tie breaker (scoring more total points over the course of the season…averaging 8 points more than either Cobras or Tarheels per game), leaving the Tarheels and the Cobras as the 4 and 5 seeds. So when all is said and done, we are set for a great rematch of these two teams in the first round of the playoffs!

Old School 82 Inwood 58
Old School put together a strong offensive performance as they defeated Inwood 82-58. Andrew lead the way for OS, as he sprinted up and down the floor, finishing the game with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Jason Powell had a double-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Despite the loss, Inwood managed to have 4 players score double figures, lead by Sommerfeldt’s 16 points.

Silver Hawks 74 T-Birds 72
In one of the most exciting games all season, the Silver Hawks pulled out the victory in overtime over the hustling T-Birds74-72. The game included 17 lead changes throughout (ok, so I made that up, but it definitely seemed to be back and forth) …both teams hitting three pointers from all over the floor. Nick “McNasty” Sarasty (brother of Andy Sarasty) scored 22 points on the evening for SH, including the deciding bucket in overtime. Andy actually lead all scorers with 27 points. The T-Birds had great performances from Betancourt and Adams, who finished the game with 26 and 21 points respectively.

Quiet Storm 54 Cobras 41
Quiet Storm drove to the basket early and often, defeating the Cobras 54-41. Bradley, Cook, and Bethea all scored in double figures (15, 14, and 10) for QS. They used hustle and hard work to scored points against the stingy defense of the Cobras. The Cobras defensive intensity was matched, however, by QS, holding the Cobras to the their lowest scoring output of the season. They only managed to have one player in double figures, as Kontgakis finished the game with 11 points.

Tarheels 64 Court Order 52.
Court Order took the Tarheels to the brink, but when all was said and done, the jury came back with the verdict in favor of the Tarheels, 64-52. CO cut the Tarheels lead down to just 3, with several minutes to go in the game, but the Tarheels made some clutch shots and free throws to pull away with the victory. CO got 21 points from Ortiz, and 17 points from Broadway. Leading the way for the Tarheels were Jones and McCoy. Jones put together another all-around performance, finishing the game with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. McCoy had 17 points and 9 rebounds.
